January WvW Culling & Load Alterations


Today, Habib Loew brings us quite a few details about a few modifications which are coming to WvW, particularly culling & load alterations. Here's what he has to express:

In the January update we'll be making a couple of preliminary adjustments to WvW.
The 1st of our engine alterations will be coming on line to help grow character load times by using fallback models.

We'll be switching over to the culling methodology that we trialed in December.
The engine alter we are making uses fallback models to represent characters until their detailed models are definitely loaded. The fallback models are cached so that they can display with no asset load delay and there is a distinct fallback model for each race/gender/armor-class combination. As a result of this modify gw2 gold players will be in a position to see characters represented as fallback models as soon as those characters are reported to the client. Once the certain, detailed model for a given character is completely loaded from disk the fallback model will be replaced with the detailed model. This visual compromise will help to make certain that players see other characters as rapidly as doable in WvW. Please note that this modify does not eliminate delays due to culling, it only addresses delays thanks to asset load occasions. In December we ran a one matchup trial of an updated culling program. We further saw that a lot of the difficulties men and women had with the new tactic were associated to asset load times rather than culling issues so making this adjust in mixture with our character loading improvements must lead to an improved overall experience. It is critical to note, however, that while we think this change is an improvement to the WvW experience it will not entirely address the issues with culling & we're nonetheless working towards our goal of removing culling from WvW absolutely. This adjust is intended to give players an improved WvW experience while we continue work on our more comprehensive solution.

While this update only consists of a couple of obvious alterations to WvW it lays a considerable amount of crucial groundwork for future updates. We have quite a few thrilling changes coming and this update is just the beginning!
